Salvation for God's People (Sunday School Lesson)

Salvation For God's People - Sunday School Lesson
January 9th, 2011
Shiloh Baptist Church, Brighton
Rev. Kelvin J. Anthony, Youth Pastor/ Teacher

Most people want the best for themselves and their families. So we work hard and save as best we can to create that future for ourselves. We seek to fulfill by earthly means what we think is best for us. But God has a better way. He shows us clearly that life is not all about having the luxuries of this earth. Rather, our best lies in living according to God's will for us. This begins as we come to him in surrender and receive His salvation. The Principle of this lesson is to know that God's future for us begins when by God's grace we turn to Him for salvation. The Application that we should get out of this lesson is to see that when God brings us to salvation, we will experience the best future that can be imagined.

The background of this lesson address two different time periods. Chapter 1-39 address the events that took place during Isaiah's lifetime in the 8th century B.C., and God spoke through Isaiah to warn the Israelites that if they didn't repent of their sins then God would use foreign nations to punish them. Chapter 40-66 assumes that foreign nations had already punished Israel. The concern of these sections are to comfort a nation that has been beaten down. For it reassured the Israelites that God had not abandoned them, and he used them as His vehicle of blessing to the nation.

I. Formation of the World
  • Israel's Future is not to be grounded in self-achievement, but in divine promise.
  • God is a God of Creation (V.18)
  • God is a God of Righteousness (V.19)
II. Futility of Idolatry
  • Many False God (V.20)
  • One True God (V.21)
III. Future Redemption
  • Universal Salvation (V.22)
  • Universal Judgment (VV.23-24)
In Conclusion, this lesson is to remind us about God, remember the uniqueness of God, and let it be remained that there is one God. The main purpose for this lesson is to that God and Only God Can Save. Jesus Christ is the only way to God. He is the only truth revealed from God to Humans. He is the only source of eternal life. Salvation cannot be found in anyone else but Jesus Christ. No other name under the sky has even been or will ever be revealed from God for human salvation from sin. (Acts 4:12)
